Description
The Helios Crochet Bucket Hat is a colourful summer crochet pattern built around a band of granny squares, with plenty of options for making it your own.
The pattern includes three different granny square designs — Traditional, Flower and Sunburst — or you can substitute your own. Choose a shorter or longer brim, leave it soft or reinforce it for extra structure, and have fun playing with colour combinations.
Written for an average adult size, the pattern also includes suggestions for adapting the hat for babies.
Both UK and US crochet versions are included with your purchase, along with written, picture and video tutorials.

Method ~
The Helios Hat is constructed in three separate components: the crown, granny-square band and brim.
The Crown
Worked first with the right side facing throughout. Staggered increases are used to create a smooth circle before the crown is set aside ready for joining.
The Band
Made from six granny squares, with three different granny-square designs included in the pattern. The squares are joined to form the band using the join-as-you-go method.
The Brim
Worked directly from the completed band, with increases on every even round. The standard brim measures approximately 6 cm / 2.5″, with instructions for making it shorter or longer.
Size ~
Designed to fit an average adult head circumference of approximately 56 cm / 22″, with very little negative ease.
Suggestions for adapting the pattern for baby sizes are also included.

You will also need approximately:
11 m / 12 yds for joining
15 m / 16 yds if reinforcing the brim with millinery wire
17 m / 19 yds to work crab stitch around the standard-length brim
You can substitute another yarn provided you meet the stated gauge and achieve a suitable fabric.

Gauge ~
Gauge checkpoints are given throughout the pattern. These are important for achieving the intended finished size and ensuring the recommended yarn quantities are sufficient.
