Description
The Textus Beanie takes its name from the Latin textus, meaning a woven structure or fabric. Its striking textured design is created with travelling stitches that repeatedly cross paths, producing an intricate-looking fabric from a rhythmic and intuitive stitch pattern.
Worked from the brim upwards in the round, the textured fabric naturally pulls in to create a snug, flattering fit. The pattern includes instructions for four yarn weights from Aran/Worsted through to Super Chunky.
Skill Level ~
Advanced beginner. Written and video tutorials are included to guide you through the techniques.
Method ~
Knitted from the brim up in the round.
The stitch pattern is worked over a multiple of 12 stitches and four rounds. Because of the larger stitch repeat, the circumference is not easily adjusted.
Size ~
Designed for an average adult head circumference of approximately 56 cm / 22″.
Finished measurements for each yarn weight are provided within their respective pattern sections, with negative ease varying slightly depending on the chosen yarn weight.
The stitch pattern pulls the fabric in significantly, so the beanie will appear narrower and taller when measured off the needles. When worn, the fabric stretches widthwise, shortening the overall height and creating the intended fit.
Yarn ~
Aran/Worsted: approx. 119 m / 130 yds
Light Chunky: approx. 99 m / 108 yds
Chunky: approx. 93 m / 102 yds
Super Chunky: approx. 73 m / 80 yds
You can substitute another yarn provided you meet the stated gauge and achieve a suitable fabric.
Needles & Gauge ~
Use 40 cm / 16″ circular needles and DPNs in the following sizes, or sizes required to obtain gauge.
Aran/Worsted: 4 mm / US 6 and 5 mm / US 8
22 sts × 28 rnds = 10 cm / 4″; WPI 11
Light Chunky: 5 mm / US 8 and 6 mm / US 10
20 sts × 22 rnds = 10 cm / 4″; WPI 10
Chunky: 5.5 mm / US 9 and 6.5 mm / US 10.5
16 sts × 18 rnds = 10 cm / 4″; WPI 8
Super Chunky: 8 mm / US 11 and 9 mm / US 13
